Whitbread is a good guy and also a dealer for Wavetrac and Peloquin if I am not mistaken. Old gear set went in the scrap bin. I carefully inspected everything and could find no wear or issues whatsoever. There are plenty of gear calculator programs out there to make sure you get what you want with your chosen wheel and tyre size. I really think having the actual Bentley repair not the thinner service manual is key for this level of work. After pulling out the trans we found this hole.
I can live with all the gears except 5th and it really is not long enough for my Motorway driving Cheers for that dude. Been 60K miles since and tranny is excellent. One time the car was already apart. From what I read on the Vortex it sounds like you need the complete shift tower for the O2J. In preparation, I am having Franko6 freshen up the head and I might hone and re-ring it depending on what an inspection shows.
Self Machining syndrome When the Pin that the spider gears spin on comes out the pin moves outwards and rubs the case until the case wears a hole in it. I have a shot of a 2. These are some expensive parts but there are some used available to save money. There are a lot of different codes with all the boxes having different gear ratios. I know of 2 instances where they just shipped the vr6 flywheel.
Thanks, but I've scoured over the net and I saw and read this link. Figure out your powerband and top speed goals first, then look at the 02A and 02J codes available. Contact us in the following link. You need the 3 letter code in order to determine the gear ratios of the actual box. Can 02A shift cables be used with an 02J shifter tower? So ive had it in my head that I want an 02j box to go onto my r32 lump. Of course, you could swap the shift tower to the matching 02A type. Yes, pulling that gear was very difficult.
Cheers J If you look back through the posts, its wasn't me who actually said that. If they do not offer a unit, I will go with one of the others. Sometimes it moves out and breaks the case. Funny that you mention this. We can install replacement case when necessary.
The very early G60s had a lighter flywheel but discontinued it because there were vibrations being heard in the exhaust system so this is when they kicked the wieght up by an additional 8 lbs. By 'Shifter Tower' I am referring to the part on the gearbox where you attach the shift cables. I only saved a picture of the race though. When a friend and I went to pick up the friend's 2. I am having no issues now, but it does have 191K miles on it. I've been told the run out quite quick compared to an 02J or is there not much difference? Well, no info came from this thread so I just dove in and did it. We would have driven home and 4 hours later realized that mistake if I had not caught this.
According to the manual, gear pullers might not work due to lack of room between the gears and the edge of the box. Simply replacing the Diff with some new bearings fixed it. Do the research, ask the right questions, and you'll build something killer. Quote: Yes, pulling that gear was very difficult. I think they have a monkey in the shipping dept.

Unfortunately this resulted in a chipped tooth on the gear being removed. That was what I was afraid of. When the bearings fail on the differential or on the pinion it makes a whine noise. I'm a little concerned about showing hwat I did as I don't want to be hounded with questions but I guess I'm a glutten for punishment. For example, could you fit an 02J 'box to a car running fully 02A stuff, and connect up the 02A shift cables, and use them? I have considered using an 02J gearbox bracket, and buying a Dieselgeek 02J short shift kit, and using it to clamp the ends of the 02A cables to the 02J pivots. We have fixed some of these without removing the trans, so that is a possibility, but sometimes we find this wear while repairing some other part and this jumps the price up as these are some expensive parts. Syncros worth it if all is well now? If you want to confirm that it will work.
Im only changing due the short ratios of the current 02j. When this wear gets bad enough the ridges keep it from coming out of 5th. Its not a real expensive part so it goes in everyone. I screw in an allen bolt to center the gear puller I have had to grind the prongs on the gear puller to fit between the case and the 5th gear. I looked last night online-does a guy have to go to the closest vw dealer and order the parts needed? First pic shows wear on the hub. It's relatively simple as the drive part screws into the transmission and at the top of this drive, the cable screws into the drive. Keeping the revs up and driving in a lower gear will prevent wear on trans and engine.
