Most cars do just fine on… The Northstar cooling system is self-purging. A pretty nice looking bit-of-kit that engine, as I can't say that I've ever seen them in anything down in Oz! You have to start the bolts a turn or two on all four making sure they are properly seated and haven't moved. This will allow you to completely remove the belt. Here is a shot of the new gasket kit, clearly you can see how swolen the old ones were. Here the intake manifold is removed to make way for the massive crossover housing to clear. They just don't happen on the Northstar. Often times these crossover seals like to leak when sitting, and when they get bad like these they leak all the time, causing people to refill the coolant often.
I assume that you are asking because of poor heat. Part 80062 There are other brands too. The Northstar is in pretty much all of the full size Cadillac. Remove pulley bolts Remove all studs and bolts from old water pump. It's a very powerfull engine and if kept up proper, smooth as silk.
If you know your engine is leaking from the crossover gaskets to the block then you can just yank the intake with the throttle body attached and save a little time. Checked my oil, and there's no coolant in it. But I'd be very suprised if you have an 'air bubble'. Higher octane fuels generally just produce more pollutants, and cost more. The clear leakage also hasn't recurred since I posted, so maybe it was condensation after all. When I take it back for service again, what should I tell them to check? I assume it is a 4. A puddle of liquid under the car is a symptom, and it requires immediate attention. I don't know what it is, but more and more I am seeing these Cadillac Northstar engines coming in with leaking water pump crossover housings. My commute is around 35 miles, and the car's been parked about 7 hours at this point. If you are using Dex Cool then you know thats expensive in of itself. Then replace the cap and you're good to go. He replaced that, but the leak has continued.
If you have done gas tank sending units it should be pretty much a snap. Exposed is the water pump that requires a special tool to remove and install. Lying on the ground beside the car, I can see it dripping from two different places: the first is slightly forward of dead center of the car right along the driveshaft, while the other is just forward of the front axle. Also, my air conditioner doesn't blow through the vents, don't know if that would affect anything. Release belt from pulley, take out all of the bolts around the pump there are at least three different sizes including a couple torx head.
I've also had it to two separate shops a total of five times specifically to find the remaining leak that no one seems able to track down. On this engine the lower block to crossover gasket was leaking coolant onto the transmission, from there it would just run all over making the leak very hard to find. Disconect lower radiator hose and drain coolant. You will need some basic tools a 10mm socket ratchet with and extension , a 13mm socket. Once you have removed the pump you can remove the pulley also. If the hose is clear, check for blockage at the nipple on the tank. You need a special tool to remove and install it, borrow it from autozone, get the part from the dealer or napa, replace the belt also, and with that many miles replace the tensioner first remove the little black bracket that guards the waterpump belt and tensioner, use a 13 mm wrench on the tensioner pully to remove the belt, just push on it with the wrench and lessin the tension, with the waterpump socket and a half inch breaker bar, push it towards the firewall to removee I think and pull it too you to tighten, just let the coolant spill out in too a drain pan.
And here is the right side. Even with this stuff helping to hold gaskets it will take great care not to knock them off while installing crossover. Sprayed some liquid wrench on… look on the drivers side of the front cylinder head you will see a drive wheel in a small housing there are one bolt and two nuts to remove after you get the cover off you get a 13 mm wrench put it on the nut close to the radiator push the little pulley towards the center of the car remove the belt off the tensioner unwind it from all pulleys it may take you… Steam from the tailpipe, and water in the oil means you have a faulty head gasket. Here is a look at the old pump being removed after the spanner ring has been let free. I believe this same tool is needed for other cars like some Oldsmobile cars and Aurora This are just some of the vehicles with similar procedures.
