Worst car I have owned and I had a 1971 Ford Pinto. On his way to school we encountered a lot of stop and go traffic. This is not right and it is not fair. The car still looks very good but on a hot day the transmission fails to stay in fourth gear on the freeway, and in Texas, a hot day is common. It took me looking at there wall of keys to find it. The cvt transmissions on this car keeps burning up where they no longer work. Cuts off when I put it in drive or reverse.
Turns out the transmission had went on my 2001 car. I was coming off the exit from the highway and at the stop light I put the car in park. The rap dear tell me that they are covered up to 120,000 miles. The fluid was changed and a valve was replaced, not sure exactly what was replaced though. The original dealer has since sold the dealership to his son, and the new dealer refuses to assist me, stating that the previous dealership and the new dealership have no affiliation with one another. My kids first cars will be Toyotas. My fear is that, my luck, the transmission will go out again when I'm outside the power train warranty period and I'm screwed.
Contacted Nissan's Consumer Affairs, was told to return to original dealer and nothing else could be done. Due to safety hazards I have been without a vehicle and have had to rent a vehicle to Transport to rutgers university where I attend full-time. . I have a disable daughter that needs medical attention sometimes and needs immediate procedures. They are aware of this problem and just keep replacing it with rebuilt transmissions. Now I'm debating whether I take a loss and sell it way below what I paid for and get another vehicle that's not a Nissan.
Rear bumper is now falling off and gear shift is starting to stick. June 28, 2012, we were out and it was 100 degrees outside and due to the safety light I had to get to somewhere to service the tire pressure. The dealer wants me to pay 3,800+ to rebuild it. The car over heated and possibly causing a fire. The last month or so it started acting up, stalling, running very rough, and this week it stalled on me 3 times in heavy traffic.
Was have problems for about 6 months with hesitation and engine light on. I have done all the service as required and I have all the service records. Drove it for about 600 km strate then it started knocking, lagging and after 150 more km it stopped. Nissan extended their warranty on this cvt transmission, because of the problems, from 5 years 60,000 miles to 10 years 120,000 miles. Why on earth did I pay you 22K????? I would recommend to anyone! Had my mechanic install had no towards gears. Too many have this problem and should not have to pay for this.

Replaced for the second time under factory warranty. The Sentra is a pleasant small sedan in everyday driving. Now I am told the warranty does not cover this because it is an add on part, not a replacement part and that I am expected to pay for this. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. I need to discuss this problem with someone from your office. It also helps with heat transfer, and when the fluid ages and gets hot, the chemical components degrade and loose important properties over time. I did not even drive 2,000 miles before this incident occurred, and I fully believe these constant variable transmissions pose a threat to anyone operating a vehicle, and that this is grounds for a factory recall or at the least additional safety warnings. Consequence: If the warning lamp is continuously ignored, one of the brake circuits on the vehicle may fail increasing stopping distances and increasing the risk of a crash. I could not believe it.
